Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2022: New Render & Details

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the first SUV from the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo. Emotion at the wheel, great performance, character, and sporty design are the premises of any ‘Alfa’. For the first time in more than a century of the company’s history, these distinctive characteristics of the ‘Alpha spirit’ are brought together in an SUV. The objective of this vehicle is to rewrite the rules in the mid-size crossover segment.

The very name chosen to baptize this new Alfa Romeo model already indicates that it aims to offer a unique driving experience. Stelvio is the highest mountain pass in Italy. The road that runs through it, with twenty kilometers and more than 75 curves that crown it, make it a mythical place for any car lover.

On the market, this car is called upon to compete in the premium category. Being a segment on the rise, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s rivals are models with great aptitude that are not going to make it easy. Among them, we find the Porsche Macan, the Audi Q5, or the BMW X3. Nor can the Mercedes GLC or Volvo XC60 be ruled out as an alternative.

Italian design at its best

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a perfect blend of experience, speed, and beauty.  This magical alchemy is part of the history of the brand. Achieving this combination involves combining the three key ingredients in Alfa Romeo design: proportion, simplicity, and high quality.

These same ingredients have already given us the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the new reference for the manufacturer and forerunner of the future of the brand. These ingredients have been extensively reworked to fit a completely different concept: a sports utility vehicle.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s exterior proportions, with a modest length of 4.68 meters, a height of 167 centimeters, and a width of 2.16 meters, express strength, dynamism, and compactness. The side view confirms this impression, with an outline suggesting a compact car, starting at the front section and progressively extending towards the rear.

The Alfa Romeo style is also seen in the Stelvio in the high-quality surfaces, where the light elegantly draws the different volumes that make up the whole. The end result is a very passionate and careful body line that, on the flanks and ends, gives rise to strong contrasts. Thanks to this muscle and sinew on the sides of the new Stelvio, the Italian design department accentuates its front and rear tracks.

To underline the beauty of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the customer can choose from thirteen body colors (pastel, metallic and tri-layer tones) that highlight the elegant SUV silhouette of this Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2022 interior

The sporty inspiration of the exterior has also guided the stroke of the pens of the Alfa Romeo designers, who have created an interior of simple and elegant lines for the new  Stelvio SUV. This interior aims to offer the best in terms of quality, safety, equipment, and comfort. There is a very relevant detail in Alfa Romeo designs: everything is focused on the driver.

This important approach is reflected in the grouping of all the controls on the steering wheel or the orientation of the dashboard. Also noteworthy in this regard is the display screen (3.5 “or 7” depending on equipment) that provides the driver with all the essential information. Another detail that reveals this centrality present in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio goes through the two rotary controls of the ‘Alfa DNA’ driving mode selector and the ‘Alfa Connect’ multimedia system.

The cabin of the new Alfa Romeo SUV has been designed as a bespoke suit for the driver and his occupants, with careful craftsmanship and premium materials. The aluminum, wood, leather, or fabrics that you can equip have been chosen for their visual appeal and for being pleasant to the touch. These materials are combined in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio to give a palpable sense of quality and know-how.

The soul of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Design, engineering, and technology are fundamental to the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio. As tradition demands, your true identity derives from the soul under the hood. Among the engines of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, there are several mechanical possibilities, both in diesel and gasoline versions. The gasoline section is starred by the propellants, built entirely in aluminum, with four cylinders with turbocharger and two power steps: 200 and 280 hp (here you can see the test of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio with the second engine).

These next-generation engines combine excellent performance and fuel economy efficiency. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and ‘Q4’ all-wheel-drive system.

The range is completed by new diesel engines, also four-cylinder and turbocharged. Both use a 2.2-liter engine and are available with 180 and 210 hp. Both equip the eight-speed automatic transmission, although the lower power is available only with rear-wheel drive.

The most powerful diesel variant of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is associated with the ‘Q4’ all-wheel drive. This system makes it possible to maintain the character of a rear-wheel drive vehicle, sending up to 50% of torque to the front wheels when necessary.

Technological innovation and security

Depending on the chosen engine, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio can be optionally equipped with a self – locking rear differential. Like good Alfa Romeo, the new Stelvio offers absolute agility, as evidenced by the perfect distribution of weights between the front and rear axle, the most direct steering ratio in the segment, and a next-generation suspension scheme with the exclusive patented technology ‘Alfa Link ‘.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio also stands out for the extensive use of lightweight materials in its assembly, including carbon fiber for the driveshaft and aluminum for the engines, suspension, hood, fenders, doors, and tailgate.

Inside the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the new ‘Alfa DNA’ driving mode selector, which modifies the car’s dynamic behavior according to the driver’s needs: ‘Dynamic’, ‘Natural’, and ‘Advance’. The dynamic mode accentuates the performance and behavior of the set. Steering response is more precise, braking is more immediate, and electronic control systems do not interfere with the pleasure of sporty driving.

Natural mode is ideal for urban settings and quiet road trips. In this mode, the handling adapts to offer maximum comfort. Finally, the advanced mode maximizes fuel savings and minimizes emission levels.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio: the sportiest version

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the sportiest model in the range. Thanks to its impressive design and spectacular performance that you can see in our test of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, it becomes one of the benchmarks in the segment of premium cut SUV vehicles. Today it is the fastest SUV in its category, having set the record in its class at the iconic Nürburgring with a time of seven minutes 51.7 seconds.

The reason is in the heart that drives the whole. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is equipped with the exclusive 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo petrol engine, made of aluminum, which receives technology and technical knowledge in terms of engineering from FerrariIt develops a maximum power of 510 hp and a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 2500 and 5000 revolutions.

In addition, this engine is associated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to a specific calibration, the automatic transmission allows you to change gear in just 150 milliseconds in ‘Race’ driving mode. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 283 km / h.

Tradition and performance come together

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio transmission is combined with the innovative ‘Q4’ all-wheel-drive system. Its guarantees of performance, traction, driving pleasure, and safety are excellent in any situation. Under normal conditions, the system transfers 100% of the engine torque to the rear axle. As the wheels approach their grip limit, the system sends up to 50% to the front axle in real-time, via an active transfer case.

In keeping with Alfa Romeo traditions, electronic assistance should never be intrusive but simply facilitate the driving experience. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio confirms this philosophy but still offers numerous sophisticated systems to make the driving experience better.

This vehicle is the only SUV in its class to provide the ‘Alfa Active Torque Vectoring’ differential as standard. This technology accentuates its sporty character.  It has two electronically controlled clutches in the rear differential that allow you to control the delivery of torque to each wheel independently.

This ensures optimal power transfer to the asphalt, even when the car is pushed to its dynamic limits. This makes the Stelvio safe and fun to drive at all times, without resorting to intrusive actions by stability control.

Pure Alfa Romeo identity

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, in its basic version, brings with it proportion, style, elegance, and unique and unmistakable identity. In this Quadrifoglio version, everything becomes extreme and even more exciting.

It is a high-performance SUV where style and exterior design are not purely aesthetic details, but complement such important factors as aerodynamics, speed, power, and driving pleasure.

This is clearly visible in details such as the bonnet, with openings to allow air to pass from the inside to the outside of the engine compartment; in the side air intakes for cooling the intercooler; in the sport aprons and in the pronounced wheel arches or in the four tailpipes.

In addition, the interior of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio has been made as a tailored suit, with artisanal treatment and high-quality materials as evidenced by the use of carbon fiber, leather, and Alcantara.
