Among the plans that GM has to launch 30 new electric vehicles worldwide by 2025, the new Chevrolet Bolt EUV 2022 was presented, and the update of the well-known ‘zero emissions’ compact, Bolt EV. Equipped with everything you need, they maintain the affordable concept of the line.
Since the introduction of the first Bolt in the market in 2017, to date, the brand has exceeded 100,000 units sold worldwide. In the United States, which is its main square, three-quarters of the buyers of the Bolt range are new buyers of General Motors.
In addition to expanding Chevrolet’s line of electric vehicles with the all-new Bolt EUV, this will also be the first vehicle in the Bowtie to offer the hands-free driving assistance system, called Super Cruise. Offering a new dual-level charger to streamline the charging process.
Similarities and differences
The new Chevrolet Bolt EUV SUV and the redesigned compact Bolt EV share the same architecture but are visibly different in terms of exterior design. In addition to keeping in mind that the former is naturally longer, it is approximately six inches in length.
For one thing, the Bolt EUV features a sculpted grille and distinctive lighting, including standard LED headlamps and high-visibility daytime running lights that function as secondary turn indicators. As we saw in the teaser, it has very strong lines on its body and sharp at the rear.
Other distinctive elements on the new electric SUV are the roof rails and the specific light cluster at the back. Being larger, there is more cabin space for rear-seat passengers, and also sufficient luggage compartment capacity of up to 1,614 liters.
Regarding the exterior aesthetics of the Bolt EV in its 2022 update, a new design of the front grille, more vertical, is included, along with a redesigned set of headlights both front and rear. From the rearview, you can see a more curvilinear bumper and a new boot lid.
Meanwhile on board, more similarities can be found between the two vehicles. Both feature a new front panel, controls, and seats. 10.2-inch diagonal touchscreen for infotainment functions with intuitive interfaces, and an eight-inch instrument cluster.
The new interior includes a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, redesigned seats with a triangular geometric pattern, and contrasting color stitching. The front seats are heated and ventilated and the rear seats are heated, plus a power panoramic sunroof for the Bolt EUV.
Chevrolet Bolt EUV Technologies
Chevrolet’s innovative Super Cruiser system for the new Bolt EUV is powered by a driver attention system and LiDAR map data. If the system determines an inattention, it will use visible and audible alerts to notify the driver to regain control of the steering wheel. D available in the Premier version.
As standard, both the Bolt EUV and Bolt EV include features such as autonomous emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, following distance indicator, IntelliBeam, and front pedestrian braking in their driving assistance package.
Additional connectivity technologies include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless phone charging on the Bolt EUV range, while 4G LTE Wi-Fi is available on the Bolt EV. Navigation in applications like Alexa, Spotify, and The Weather Channel.
‘Zero emissions’ propulsion
The powertrain works the same for both models. That means they are equipped with a 65 kWh battery pack that powers an electric motor capable of generating 201 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. They are front-wheel drive.
The autonomy for each full charge is 416 kilometers, although in the Bolt EUV SUV having size and weight factors, the range could reach up to 402 kilometers. The two vehicles have fast charging capacity, achieving 161 kilometers in 30 minutes.
The brand highlights that the system has regeneration that allows the driver to convert kinetic energy into energy stored within the battery, for future use simply by pulling a paddle mounted on the steering wheel.
The new Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Bolt EV will be available in the US market in the middle of this year, starting at $ 31,995 for the compact, and the SUV at $ 33,995. The latter will be sold in the Launch Edition version, more equipped, for $ 43,495.
