VW ID.3 Cabrio: First Details & New Rendering

[Uptaded] Volkswagen has released a teaser picture that shows a possible VW ID.3 convertible. It is still uncertain whether the model will go into production, the manufacturer is currently gathering customer opinions. We have pictures and information for you.

Could the electric Volkswagen ID.3 soon also be available as a convertible? VW has brought out a new design study and is also hoping for opinions from customers. Read on for all the details.

The Volkswagen ID.3 is a fully electric hatchback that is about the size of a Golf and is an alternative to the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona Elektro. It could soon get a convertible version when a new design study becomes a reality. This would make the ID.3 the first fully-electric compact car on the market.

Exterior design

Everything that has been shown of a possible VW ID.3 convertible so far is a colorful illustration of a design study – what the finished car looks like, if it is ever built, is another matter. However, it can be seen that it is an ID.3, with its box-shaped front, which is crowned by an LED light bar the width of the grille.

The rear looks similar to the hatchback, with a set of thin brake lights on a rather unspectacular rear end. The ID.3 convertible has only been teased openly, the roof could probably be a fabric roof, like the T-Roc convertible.

It can be assumed that the new VW ID.3 convertible (should it go into production) will be equipped with the same 58 kWh battery as the hatchback. However, the maximum range of approx. 400 kilometers between charging processes will be difficult to achieve due to the additional weight of the convertible body.

Interior

There are no pictures of the interior of this design study of the I.3 Carbios, but it will likely look almost identical to the interior of the standard hatchback (shown above). That would mean some pretty modern-looking equipment options, a digital driver display, and a large touchscreen infotainment system.

VW ID.3 Cabrio prices

If the ID.3 convertible goes into production, it will probably not happen anytime soon. Assuming it’s in the development phase now, it could be until 2022 or 2023 before you even see the finished car.

Prices would likely start at over 34,000 euros – a significant increase over the current entry-level price for the hatchback.
